Title:Main Title: Towards Improved Attenuation Corrections by Exploiting a Twin Polarimetric X-Band Radar Setup
Description:Abstract: We evaluate the (differential) attenuation correction coefficients α and β in pure rain by observing the same precipitation volume from two X-band radars installed at a distance of 48km. To this goal we exploit observations of radar volumes which are observed at the same time nearly non-attenuated by one radar and attenuated by the other radar. We particularly focus on the temperature dependence of α and β and their behaviour in hot spot regions. An empirical relation could not be formulated for any of these cases due to a large spread in the calculated correction coefficients, but a dependence on both temperature and hot spot regions can be observed.
